MTN supports research and medical education by sending organs that are recovered for transplant and later deemed unsuitable to three different organizations: International Institute for the Advancement of Medicine (IIAM), National Diabetes Research Institute (NDRI) and the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) Liver Research Department. 

MTN does not approach grieving families strictly for research consent, but if an organ is recovered and it is not transplantable (for a variety of reasons – anatomical issues, function, and more), MTN partners with one of these agencies for research after consent has been granted.
