Support Groups

Midwest Transplant Network provides donor family support and bereavement aftercare services to all families of organ, tissue and/or eye donors. Midwest Transplant Network considers all those who have given consent for donation to be donor families.

The services Midwest Transplant Network provides to donor families include emotional support as well as educational information on donation, transplantation and bereavement. In some cases, Midwest Transplant Network may be able to facilitate communication with transplant recipients.

MTN offers families four support groups per year in Kansas City, Joplin, Wichita and Columbia, and twice a year in Topeka and Jefferson City. View the calendar for meeting dates and to learn more.

The website www.donorfamily.org is the online home for the National Donor Family Council. It provides support from other families and information about other resources to help. More information can be found by using our contact form or by phone at (800) 622 - 9010.

Following is a guide to groups in the Missouri and Kansas region that focus on bereavement.

The Compassionate Friends

The Compassionate Friends “is about transforming the pain of grief into the elixir of hope. It takes people out of the isolation society imposes on the bereaved and lets them express their grief naturally. With the shedding of tears, healing comes. And the newly bereaved get to see people who have survived and are learning to live and love again.”

Simon Stephens,
founder of The Compassionate Friends TCF
