Real-life stories of organ and tissue donation (Midwest Transplant Network, Kansas and Missouri)

Sarah Grant and Tori Walker

Generous, giving and compassionate are just a few of the words used to describe Sarah. As a wife, mother and intensive care trauma nurse, it is these characteristics that make her so good at her job – and the perfect person to donate one of her kidneys to nearly a complete stranger.

In July 2014, Tori found herself in desperate need of a person just like Sarah. She wrote a poem called “Are You the One?” and posted it on the Facebook page of her church. Sarah saw the poem and answered “yes” to the fellow mother of young children that she had met one time.

“Thankfully, after all of the screening and testing, I was found to be a match and was able to give Tori the chance at a healthy life with her family,” Sarah said. “Post-transplant I am back to playing with my kids, working and life as normal.”
